After teasing its move to a new frequency yesterday, Flinn Broadcasting CHR “B96.3” W242CF Memphis/107.5 WHBQ-HD2 moved to 97.7 W249BN at noon today.
With the frequency change giving it better coverage in the market, the station has also changed its positioning from “Hit Music Now” to “#1 For New Music”. It is also taking on-air shots at iHeartMedia’s “101.9 Kiss-FM” KWNW for its amount of commercials.
The flip marks the end of the Classic Hits “Guess-FM” format operated by North Mississippi Media Group on the Flinn owned 1430 WOWW Germantown and 97.7 translator.
Original Report 5/12: Flinn Broadcasting is promoting the upcoming move of CHR “B96.3” W242CF Memphis/107.5 WHBQ-HD2 to 97.7. 97.7 W249BN Memphis currently is operated by North Mississippi Media Group as Classic Hits “Guess-FM” along with Flinn’s 1430 WOWW Germantown.
The move to 97.7 will be the CHR format a better signal as the current 96.3 translator operates with a directional 250 watts vertical/166m, while 97.7 W249BN is a non-directional 220 watts/223m. Both translators operate from the same tower.
Flinn launched “B96.3” in January 2021 to fill the hole created by the company’s flip of 107.5 WHBQ-FM from CHR to Classic Hits in September 2020. The station features Tino Cochino Radio in mornings as it competes against iHeartMedia’s “101.9 Kiss-FM” KWNW.
