Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
July 10, 2023

1400 98.9 KFRU ColumbiaCumulus Media News/Talk 1400 KFRU/98.9 K255DJ Columbia MO has announced it will launch a new afternoon show “Columbia Today” hosted by former Missouri State Representative Ted Farnen on Monday, July 17 from 4-6pm.

Farnen has been a regular fill-in host on the station and has served as Director of Special Projects for the Missouri School Boards’ Association since 2013. He was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 1995 until 2003 after serving as a newspaper reporter in Sedalia and Jefferson City. He has since held multiple government positions including Chief of Staff for the Missouri State Senate and Director of Communications for the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The addition of Columbia Today will replace the final hour of Chris Plante’s syndicated show and the statewide Show Me Today on KFRU’s schedule.

Cumulus Media (NASDAQ: CMLS) announces that it will launch a new weekday afternoon talk show, “Columbia Today,” on KFRU, Columbia’s pre-eminent News/Talk radio station. The live and local program will be hosted by Ted Farnen, journalist and former Missouri State Representative. “Columbia Today” will debut on Monday, July 17th, and can be heard on KFRU 1400 AM and 98.9 FM and via smart speakers Monday through Friday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The show will also be available on-demand at https://www.kfru.com/.

Farnen, who has been a frequent substitute host on KFRU’s morning programming, has lived and worked in Columbia and Boone County for more than 30 years. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Greg Renoe, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Columbia, said: “We are excited to have Ted join our KFRU line-up in the afternoons. He brings experience and a local perspective that we believe will resonate well with the listeners of KFRU.”

Luke Swezy, Program Director, KFRU, commented: “We are thrilled to have Ted joining our team. He brings a valuable and informed perspective on local issues that will strengthen our programming.”

Ted Farnen remarked: “For nearly 100 years, KFRU has been Columbia’s best source for news and entertainment, and the station has a deep commitment to keeping the public informed, The debut of ‘Columbia Today’ and the recent investments by Cumulus Media in studio renovations and the news department demonstrate that KFRU will continue to be an important voice in Columbia’s conversations.”

Farnen added: “This will be a fun and informative show with a heavy concentration on local issues and guests. It will be a program to which everyone will be welcome, and it will complement the outstanding local programming KFRU already provides.”
