Original Report 5/18: Cumulus Adult Alternative “Frequency 94.1” WNNF Cincinnati dropped its format today at 12:00pm and has begun stunting with samples of different formats including Classic Country, CHR, Smooth Jazz, Urban Oldies, and All Michael Jackson. Sweepers indicate the new format will debut Friday, May 20 at 9:41am.
No word yet on what that format will be, but we wouldn’t be shocked to find that Tim & Jeff, who recently departed Clear Channel CHR “Kiss 107” WKFS where they were known as Tim & My Mom Calls Me George for Cumulus’ “Star 105.5” WWWM Toledo as part of the equation at the new 94.1.
Is it me or U Think it format of wheels more likely to Flip To CHR
I’ll put $20 Is going to CHR
I’m expecting some variation of current pop, whether it be CHR or a more pop-oriented Hot AC.
BTW, the expression is “wheel of formats” not “format of wheels”.
Hoping for CHR.
I’m guessing either CHR “i94” or “Kruz @ 94-1” which is a modern AAA format that Cumulus has been rolling out like a virus
Frequency was musically identical to KRUZ. No reason to blow it up just to rebrand.
On the website, it shows the “Under Construction” sign, but it looks like all signs lead to CHR for 94.1….
We’ll see what happens Friday (although I won’t be able to tune in when it happens).
Diane, what signs lead to CHR?
My bet isn’t with a true CHR, but I’m sure it’ll be something with lots of Energy.
Either a Hot AC or a Dance leaning CHR.
I was thinking something like a dance-leaning CHR… Cumulus has never done anything like that though?
It might be like fm 103.7 in Houston Texas
That’s pretty much what the old format was. Not going to happen.
That would be cool if it was Jack Fm
You know what? That tease with hit music and Kassey Kassem (SP?) makes me think it’ll be classic hits.
In that mix you get hits mixed with a classic voice. Are they intending to play music from a time when the CD was new perhaps?
Cumulus already owns 103.5 WGRR, why would they compete with themselves?
That’s a very good point.
…and Journey it is!
90’s 80’s and now?
I guess WGRR is going more classic?
More 70’s perhaps?
Someone please explain, if we already have stations that currently play everything on this new format, why eliminate the only alternative format. For such a large city, there are very few listening options. Looks like they’re abandoning a large group of listeners. If I wanted to listen to oldies, top 40, etc, I would tune into those stations. Of course this is Cincy, so whenever something good comes along, they change it into something completely stupid.
Well, personally, I liked the “wheel of formats” stunt they did before the change to AC “Journey 94-1”. Alas, in Dayton Ohio, we get this similar format (Mix 107.7, WMMX, uses this format, but it’s Clear Channel). I’m not impressed…
I am absolutely stunned. One more popular hits station. Like Michelle said, a huge portion of the listening audience has been abandoned in this city. How on earth can Cincinnati be THIS conservative?
Please tell me who to write to to try to sway the decision makers? In the meantime, no radio for me! Thank heavens for Pandora and Rhapsody…
