Following Monday’s exits of the entire programming and on-air staff at Hip Hop “Power 105.1” KCJK Garden City/Kansas City, Cumulus Media flipped the station to a simulcast of CHR “107.3 The Vibe” KMJK North Kansas City with the launch of a new brand.
Now “Hits 105“, the move restores the CHR format coverage on the Kansas side of the market lost when “95.7 The Vibe” KCHZ was moved to 107.3 in October 2023. The move marks the end of the “Vibe” branding that debuted in 2005 on what was previously “Z95.7“.
While both 107.3 and 105.1 are Class C1 signals, the 105.1 transmitter is more centrally located in the market with its 72kW/346m signal reaching a larger percentage of the market than 107.3’s 100kW/299m facilities well east of the city.
While Cumulus does not subscribe to Nielsen, the move will increase pressure on Steel City Media CHR “Mix 93.3” KMXV, which is currently to top listed station with a 7.0 share in the June 2026 ratings.
