GeoBroadcast Solutions, which led the push for the FCC to approve geo-targeted content within different portions of a broadcast signal through use of FM boosters, has relaunched as Aktira.
The company says the new brand will house the company’s intellectual property, engineering and commercial operations following years of development, regulatory work and market testing, as it is now scaling commercial deployment with major broadcasters, advertisers and technology partners. They state that Aktira is building what it believes is “the first integrated platform for creating, selling and measuring over-the-air advertising” by using the booster based ZoneCasting units to be sold directly or to programmatic buyers through private marketplace and programmatic guaranteed deals and measured through their “Lazer” attribution tech.
With the move, Aktira is shifting from a per-station to enterprise with full companies offering their technology at no upfront capital cost instead seeking shares of the new advertising revenue generated by the platform.
The company is working with Ken Shapiro to lead commercial strategy and go-to-market, Louis Santor for financial strategy, and Quire & Jason Anderson on strategy and capital. It is currently raising new equity and debt growth capital to expand its team, speed deployment in priority markets and fund commercial partnerships that build awareness and adoption among broadcasters and advertisers.
Lead investors Jennifer and Brian White said, “GeoBroadcast Solutions spent years building the technology, intellectual property and regulatory approvals. Aktira turns those assets into a business built to scale. With Ken Shapiro, Louis Santor, Quire and Jason Anderson joining the team, we are adding commercial and financial depth to build on that foundation. MaxxCasting, ZoneCasting and Lazer give broadcasters more listeners, new inventory and meaningful new revenue.”
