Border Media’s “98.9 The Big Talker” KXBT Austin has flipped to a simulcast of sister “True Oldies 92.5” KXXS with 98.9 to become the permanent home of the format in the coming weeks.
The move shifts the more successful, cheaper to operate station to the more powerful signal in the Austin market. 98.9 is a Class C2 operating with 29kW at 515 feet just seven miles west of downtown Austin. 92.5 is a rimshot Class A broadcasting with 3.4kW at 440 feet twenty miles east of Austin. It does have an application to move to Austin proper that is stuck in FCC limbo.
After Labor Day 92.5 will assume the ESPN Deportes programming currently heard in the market on sister 1260 KWNX, which in turn will begin simulcasting Sports “104.9 The Horn” KTXX.
I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this move to take conservative talk radio off the air. I listen to the big talker all the time in my car and really appreciate the opportunity to listen to the hosts featured on this station. Doug McIntire is absolutely wonderful in his steady balanced approach to letting ALL points of view be expressed by his listeners.
Is there another radio station that will be picking up The Big Talker’s shows or are we judy left with AM radio now?
