Wilks Broadcasting Alternative 100.9 KRZQ Reno, NV dropped its long running format at noon today and flipped to Adult CHR as “Mix 100.9“.
The station then located at 96.5 debuted its now former format in 1992 before moving to 100.9 in 1998. Former KRZQ personality Mat Diablo has a tribute to the station on his blog.
The move at 100.9 looks to be a direct result of last week’s moves resulting in the demise of Mainstream CHR “Z93.7” KWNZ and debut of Urban “Swag 97.3”.
The change will not result in any job losses. KRZQ morning host Chris Payne moves to sister Classic Rock “92.9 The Bandit” KURK for afternoons, while the remaining personalities will stay on Mix 100.9 using different on-air names. Mix 100.9 adds the syndicated Kidd Kraddick for mornings.
The new “Mix 100.9” will compete directly with Americom’s “Alice 96.5” KLCA and Citadel AC “Magic 95” KNEV.
