Update 7/20: WFNX bid adieu just after 7:00pm today. The station is still running automated Alternative Rock until Clear Channel begins operating the station.
The final hour of WFNX’s live programming musically consisted of:
Jeff Buckley – Last Goodbye
Frank Black – Los Angeles
New Order – Blue Monday
Filter – Hey Man, Nice Shot
Folk Implosion – Natural One
Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye
Human Sexual Response – What Does Sex Mean To Me?
Lemonheads – It’s A Shame About Ray
Nirvana – Molly’s Lips
O Positive – Talk About Love
Offspring – Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)
PJ Harvey – Down By The Water
Pixies – Gigantic
Patti Smith – Gloria
David Bowie – Changes
The Cure – Let’s Go To Bed
The final song, “Let’s Go To Bed” was also the first song the station played as WFNX in 1983. After two minutes of silence the station returned with the automated music.
Update 7/19: The final day lineup for WFNX will feature the returns of Tai from 6-11am, Jim Ryan from 11am-2pm, and Neal Robert from 2pm-7pm. It is expected that 101.7 will segue to automated music at 7:00 until Clear Channel begins operating the station.
More recent domain registrations have been identified as bogus. 1017WHBA.com, WHBA1017.com, 1017TheBay.com, 1017TheHarbor.com, Harbor1017.com, and TheBay1017.com were registered yesterday by “Department, Interactive ContactMiddleName”. That same registration name is used on a few domains owned by Greater Media’s Boston cluster.
Original Report 7/17: Following the FCC approval of its sale to Clear Channel, 101.7 WFNX Boston has reportedly moved up its farewell to Friday, July 20 at 7:00pm.
TJ Connelly, one of WFNX’s former DJ’s returning for a farewell shift, has blogged that his farewell shift has been moved up due to the new end time for the station. The station had originally planned to say goodbye on Saturday evening.
We also know that when Clear Channel begins operating the station it will be under the WHBA calls. What we don’t know yet is what format will accompany those call letters or when they will begin operating the station.
