After failed experiments in launching HD subchannel fed translators in Detroit and other markets, Martz Communications is expanding its holdings in the North Country of Upstate New York.
The company has agreed to acquire Country simulcast “99 Hits” 1470 WPDM and 99.3 WSNN Potsdam, NY from St. Lawrence Radio for an undisclosed price. The stations will join Martz’ three other stations in the region, Classic Hits “102.7 WICY” 1490 WICY/102.7 W274BI, CHR “Hits 94.7” WYUL, and “Wild Country 96.5” WVNV. The latter two also target listeners in nearby Montreal.
Martz tells NorthCountryNow.com that the two new acquisitions will debut new formats once they take over. WPDM will shift to a News/Talk format with a hefty amount of Sports play-by-play, while WSNN will move to another undisclosed music format.
