Florida Host Fired For Second Time This Year Over Tweet

For the second time this year, sports talk host Dan Sileo has been fired from a station for something he tweeted. “640 Sports” WMEN Royal Palm Beach parted ways with their midday host after he offered a $1000 bounty to any University of Miami player who would injure Florida State’s Devonta Freeman.

Sileo had joined WMEN in August following his termination from 560 WQAM Miami in March. Part of the supposed cause for his dismissal at WQAM were sexist tweets directed at Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews. He had also been fired from WDAE Tampa in 2012 for calling three Tampa Bay Buccaneer players “monkeys”.

WMEN released the following statement in regard to Sileo’s employment:

As a result of Dan Sileo’s action on his personal Twitter account on November 3, 2013, WMEN has terminated his independent contractor relationship with the station. The ownership, staff, and management of WMEN 640 Sports do not condone his actions which have no place in sport

Devonta Freeman is actually at Florida State where he’s a running back. Dan Sileo was once a lineman at Miami.

this is a classic case of back peddling. we here at blah blah sports radio would like to present nationally, at least the hundred thousandth fake media apology. Meanwhile, I don’t blame the host at all, yea sure, he’s stupid, talentless, and shouldn’t be anywhere near a public transmitter, but it’s not his fault. going back to the debate of AM radio, it’s become quite apparent that many operators are operating with desperation. Same thing happened in STL, and some online station thought they would be cool for hiring jack clark after the am fired him. Sorry for not knowing the name of the network, or the am station, zbut hey! on the bright side, nobody from Saint Louis probably knows it either. Since the idea of having ex athletes on the radio has worked so well, perhaps Ryan Seacrest should consider a career playing for the lakers. I mean, he’s had years and many markets of experience, this obviously makes him a great basketball player. i’m rather sick of the nacho eating sports talk howard stern wannabes and the stations that act as enablers to save some face, to have cheap relevance in today’s digital generation. sorry, but 1996 has long passed!
