Saga Communications is growing its Ithaca, NY cluster.
The company has agreed to purchase CHR “Z95.5” WFIZ Odessa and three translators from the bankruptcy estate of George and Patricia Kimble’s ROI Broadcasting for $715,000. The three translators involved in the sale are 94.9 W235BR Ithaca which rebroadcasts WFIZ, 96.3 W242AB Ithaca which rebroadcasts Classic Rock 99.3 WLLW Seneca Falls, and 107.7 W299BI Ithaca which operates as “Classic Hits 107.7” via WFIZ-HD2.
Saga already owns AC “Lite Rock 97.3” WYXL, Classic Rock “I100” 99.9 WIII/100.3 W262AD, Country “Q Country 103.7” WQNY, News/Talk 870 WHCU/95.9 W240CB, Progressive Talk 1470 WNYY/97.7 W249CD, AAA “96.7 The Vine” W244CZ/WYXL-HD3, and CHR “Hits 103.3” W277BS/WYXL-HD2 in the Ithaca market.
How is Saga able to own THAT many radio stations in Ithaca? (Not counting the translators, of course)
Not counting the translators, Saga will own 2 AM’s and 4 FM’s in Ithaca. It’s the overwhelming amount of translators that makes it look like they have a ton of stations in the market.
