Update 8/28: The rebranding did not take place on Monday, August 25 as rumored, but Bell Media has confirmed “Team 1040” CKST and “Team 1410” CFTE Vancouver will relaunch under the TSN Radio brand on Monday, September 8.
TSN announced today that the network is further extending its industry-leading brand with the launch of TSN Radio in Vancouver – making TSN Radio available in six Canadian markets. With a continued focus on local sports and programming, TEAM Radio 1040 and 1410 will be rebranded to TSN Radio 1040 and 1410 beginning Monday, Sept. 8 at 6 a.m. PT. TSN also announced today that Don Taylor joins the TSN Radio family on a full-time basis (see below for more details).
TSN 1040 and 1410 join TSN’s family of local radio stations in Toronto (TSN 1050), Montreal (TSN 690), Winnipeg (TSN 1290), Ottawa (TSN 1200), and Edmonton (TSN 1260).
This announcement comes on the heels of TSN’s expansion to five national feeds – TSN1, TSN2, TSN3, TSN4, and TSN5 – that debuted across Canada on Monday.
“We are thrilled to be officially joining the TSN Radio roster,” said James Stuart, Regional Vice-President, Radio and Local Television, B.C, Bell Media. “Vancouver sports fans have been turning to our stations for many years. With the strength of the TSN brand, we will continue to serve our loyal listeners with the sports coverage they know and trust.”
TSN Radio in Vancouver will continue to be the exclusive home of every game from the Vancouver Canucks, BC Lions, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Vancouver Giants, and Seattle Seahawks. The stations also deliver coverage of the Vancouver Canadians and Vancouver Stealth, as well as live coverage of TSN’s slate of major sporting events, including the Grey Cup, IIHF World Junior Championship, FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, golf and tennis majors, and more.
TSN’s all-star team of Insiders, experts and analysts will be featured regularly on both stations.
Fans can listen to the stations live on AM 1040 and AM 1410 in the greater Vancouver area and via the TSN GO app.
Don Taylor
Synonymous with sports in Vancouver, Don Taylor has covered the city’s sports scene for nearly 20 years. Taylor will continue hosting TSN 1040’s afternoon drive show, B-MAC & TAYLOR, weekdays from 2-6 p.m. PT alongside Barry MacDonald. Taylor will also contribute to TSN Radio stations across the country.
Original Report 8/24: Bell Media’s Sports combo “Team 1040” CKST and “Team 1410” CFTE Vancouver are expected to rebrand under the “TSN Radio” brand on Monday, August 25.
The Vancouver Sun reports that advertisers have been notified of the change that is set to take place on the same day the TSN cable network splits from two to five programming feeds.
CKST and CFTE are the only remaining Sports stations in Bell Media’s holdings that have not converted to the TSN Radio branding. They will join 690 CKGM Montreal, 1050 CHUM Toronto, 1200 CFGO Ottawa, 1260 CFRN Edmonton, and 1290 CFRW Winnipeg.
According to Radio-Locator.com, there’s considerable overlap between the two stations, with CKST-1040 having the larger signal area, especially night.
But with all the play-by-play “TSN Radio Vancouver” has, maybe the two stations occasionally will break the simulcast to allow two games to air on different frequencies.
Don’t trust Radio-Locator for ANYTHING, especially for maps of Canadian stations. (They still list 93.9 Windsor as CKLW-FM… it’s been CIDR since 1993. And that’s a highlight.)
One of the least useful sites on the web.
Joseph, Team 1040 and Team 1410 do NOT simulcast. 1040 is mostly local with Vancouver Canucks hockey and the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League. 1410 is mostly ESPN Radio and Fox Sports Radio.
