Update 11/7: Due to a interference complaint from 99.9 WXJB Homosassa, “Alt 99.9” W207BU Bayonet Point moved to 100.3 at 12pm today.
Original Report 9/24: iHeartMedia has launched two new translators in the Tampa Bay market.
Classic Rock “Thunder Tampa Bay” adds a third signal as 99.1 W202CB Bayonet Point completes its upgrade and move from 88.3. The new signal joins 94.5 W233AV Gulfport/St. Petersburg and 105.9 W290BJ West Tampa in airing the programming originating at 100.7 WMTX-HD2. W202CB gives the format coverage in the northern parts of the market around Clearwater and New Port Richey (Coverage Map).
Concurrently, the company launches Alternative “Alt 99.9” on W207BU Bayonet Point via 103.5 WFUS-HD2. The new station is strongest in the same places as the coverage of Cox Media’s “97X” WSUN-FM Holiday. The new brand has no web or social media presence as of yet (Coverage Map).
Of course by Clear Channel, you meant iHeart Media… 😉
It’ll take a few more weeks of brainwashing to eliminate the old term from my vocabulary.
Lance, don’t feel bad. I was listening to WIOD this morning and THEY referred to themselves as Clear Channel.
Of course, 97X (WSUN) actually reaches (just barely) the major population centers in the market (St. Petersburg and Tampa), where Alt 99-9 is virtually unlistenable.
They’re gonna need a move south or a supplemental translator (or 2) to have any impact in the market. IHM has a few options in that regard…..
As for Thunder’s new 99.1 translator…..it fits the bill nicely.
