In the course of one week Atlanta has gone from having zero Classic Hip-Hop stations to three.
Following last week’s relaunch of “Old School 99.3” and today’s launch by Cumulus of “OG 97.9“, Radio-One has joined the club with the launch of “Boom 102.9” W275BK Decatur/107.5 WAMJ-HD2 Roswell. W275BK had been simulcasting Gospel “Praise 102.5” WPZE Mableton.
All three stations are operating on FM via translators. However, 102.9 has the best of the three operating with 147 watts at 312.9 meters just east of downtown and covering the city and adjacent suburbs (Coverage Map). The move gives Radio-One its fourth Boom branded station, joining recent launches in Dallas, Houston, and Philadelphia.
How are these stations musically different? More 90s than ’00s? Mainstream Classic Hip-Hop vs deeper tracks??
