Emmis Rhythmic CHR “Hot 97” has hired Pio Ferro as its new Program Director and Nessa as afternoon host.
Ferro was PD of “Power 96” WPOW Miami until exiting the station when CBS closed on its purchase of the station from Beasley Broadcasting in December. Ferro previously has worked as VP of Hispanic Programming for CBS Dallas and VP/National Program Director of Spanish Broadcasting System. Ferro succeeds Jay Dixon, who was named PD last July. Dixon will return to his previous role as consultant for WQHT and sister Urban AC 107.5 WBLS.
Also joining WQHT for afternoons is former “Wild 94.9” KYLD San Francisco and Premium Choice night host Nessa. Current afternoon host Cipha Sounds will remain with the station in a role to be announced. Cipha Sounds had shifted from the Hot 97 morning show to afternoons following the departure of Angie Martinez last year. Nessa also will continue her role on multiple MTV/MTV2 programs including “Girl Code”.
Also at Hot 97, Big Dennis Rivera is out as midday host.
