The one-time most listened to morning host in New York is joining SBS Spanish AC “93.1 Amor” WPAT-FM Paterson, NJ/New York.
Luis Jimenez, who led “El Vacilón de la Mañana” at SBS’ “Mega 97.9” WSKQ-FM from 1993 until 2007 will return to the company starting on Thursday, February 12. In 2004, Jimenez’ star peaked when his show knocked Howard Stern off his perch as the most listened to morning show in New York. After leaving WSKQ-FM, he joined Univision’s “X96.3” WXNY where he worked until last summer.
The new show will be syndicated by SBS’ Aire Radio Networks.
SPANISH BROADCASTING SYSTEM, INC. (“SBS”) (Nasdaq:SBSA) today announced the anticipated return of award-winning Latino radio talent, Luis Jimenez, to weekday mornings on WPAT-FM (Amor 93.1FM).
The new morning-drive show, “Sin Censura con Luis Jimenez” (“Luis Jimenez – Uncensored”) will air weekdays from 6am to 10am and will include a supporting cast of co-hosts, pranksters and outlandish characters.
Jimenez has long been a mainstay of popular, cutting-edge Latino humor, having previously ranked #1 in the overall New York radio ratings as host of “El Vacilón de la Mañana” (“the Morning Jive”) on sister station WSKQ-FM (Mega 97.9 FM) during the past two decades.
“I’m excited to be back home at SBS,” crooned Jimenez, “and I’m looking to shake things up again on WPAT mornings – including giving my old gang at WSKQ a run for their money.”
“Luis is a uniquely gifted entertainer and we’re thrilled at the opportunity of presenting him to his legion of fans in New York City on WPAT 93.1FM, on selected stations throughout the country over Aire Radio Networks and globally via the LaMusica Smartphone App,” stated SBS Chairman and CEO, Raúl Alarcón.
The comments at the Amor 93.1 Facebook page regarding Luis Jiménez are mostly negative.
I wonder if some of his old affiliates will pick him up?
