Tommy Mattern Promoted To OM Of Emmis St. Louis
Emmis Communications has promoted Tommy Mattern to Operations Manager of its four stations in St. Louis.
Mattern, the longtime PD of Alternative “105.7 The Point” KPNT, also has oversees CHR “Now 96.3” KNOU since its launch last January. Mattern will fill the duties most recently held by VP and Director of Programming Rick Balis. Balis will continue on as Program Director of Rock 94.7 KSHE.
Along with Mattern’s promotion, Kyle Guderian has been upped to Director of Marketing & Events for Emmis St. Louis. In addition to KSHE, KNOU and KPNT, Emmis owns Conservative Talk 97.1 KFTK in the St. Louis market.
Emmis/St. Louis announced two management changes as part of a restructuring designed to position Emmis’ four St. Louis radio stations for further growth and success:
Tommy Mattern Named Operations Manager. The 19-year veteran of Emmis St. Louis will be responsible for overseeing programming at KFTK, KSHE, KNOU and KPNT. Since joining Emmis in 1996, he has programmed six different stations, and took KPNT (105.7-The Point) to the #1 spot among adults 25-54 and 18-49.
Kyle Guderian Named Director of Marketing. In this role, he will consolidate all promotions and event activity for Emmis’ four local stations. Most recently, Guderian split duties as Director of Marketing for Emmis St. Louis and as Promotions Director for KSHE-95.
“Both Tommy and Kyle are experienced veterans of the radio industry who have made amazing contributions to our success,” said John Beck, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Emmis Radio-St. Louis. “I am confident that their leadership and experience will create even greater opportunities for all of our stations as we move ahead.”
Mattern joined Emmis in 1996 as Assistant Program Director and Music Director of Q-104. He was named program director of WALC (Alice) then WXTM (104.1) two years later. Tommy then switched to 105.7 The Point as its Program Director. Under Tommy’s leadership, KPNT became one of the most highly rated Alternative radio stations in the country. He was nominated for R&R Program Director of the Year in 2006, 2008 and 2010. Mattern lives in Wildwood.
In 2002, Guderian accepted the position of marketing and promotions director at Emmis-owned 105.7 The Point (KPNT) and 104.1 The Mall (WMLL). He became Emmis’ first director of Digital Solutions in 2008, before assuming the role in 2009 of operations manager at 97.9 The Loop (WLUP) and Q101 (WKQX) in Chicago, IL. He relocated back to St. Louis as marketing and promotions director of KSHE 95 (KSHE) and K-HITS 96.3 (KIHT), and in 2014 was promoted to director of marketing for all four Emmis St. Louis stations while also being promotions director for KSHE. Guderian resides in Webster Groves.
