Update 10/14: Journal has confirmed that 106.3 will relaunch as “106.3 The Groove” branded as “Tucson’s Old School” on Monday, October 24.
Journal applied for the KTGV call letters way back on August 31 for the station, which should take effect soon after the format change.
Original Report 10/6: Changes are right around the corner at Journal Broadcasting’s Rhythmic Oldies “Mega 106.3” KGMG Tucson.
On Wednesday the company let go of three staffers. PD/Morning and Afternoon host Ken Carr, middayer Rosemary Watson, and weekender Dino were all dismissed as the station prepares to move in another direction.
A staff e-mail obtained by The Arizona Daily Star explains, “As many know, the company has invested in intensive technical upgrades and market research to more clearly define a strategic operating direction for KGMG-FM. As a result of this directive, the KGMG-FM operating staff is being released effective today.”
The station logo at Mega1063.com has been replaced with an image hyping “Something New Is On The Way”. That appears to be “106.3 The Groove“. 1063TheGroove.com was registered by Journal on August 29 and a corresponding Twitter account is already live.
