Update 12/26: After stunting with All-Christmas and the “Lounge” moniker, 100.7 CFJL has flipped to Soft AC as “100.7 The Breeze“.
The station will feature Don Percy in mornings, John Tesh in middays, and a nighttime block of Standards billed as “The Lounge“.
Original Report 11/26: For the second straight year, a Christmas music stunt will lead to a new format in Winnipeg.
Evanov Communications, which recently closed on its acquisition of Ethnic 810 CKJS and Blues/Rock “100.7 K-Rock” CHNK from Newcap has dropped the format on the latter in favor of Christmas music.
As of now all signs point to 100.7 becoming Soft AC/Standards “The Lounge” after the holidays. K-Rock’s former website now redirects to TheLoungeFM.com. A Facebook page already exists for the new format as well.
Canadian Radio News adds that 100.7 has gained the CFJL call letters that had been on Evanov’s CHR “Energy 106“, which is now CHWE-FM. The Standards format expected to now come to 100.7 was originally intended to launch on 106.1.
Bell Media used a Christmas stunt to flip Modern AC “Curve 94.3” CHIQ to Classic Hits “Fab 94.3” in 2010.
I’m expecting it to become the Jewel. That seems to be the TRUE Evanov cookie cutter…unless a Jewel or two plans to relaunch as the Lounge in other markets as well…???
It is so disappointing to me that in smaller markets like winnipeg, we seem unable to support more interesting stations that might play, jazz, blues or blues rock.
smooth jazz- cool FM just packed it in
now k-rock is out
What the hell?
On radio, its all the the same standardized popular crap all the time
