Update 9/6: KZON has rebranded as “Live 101.5“.
The music mix has been slightly mainstreamed, putting the playlist more in line with CBS sisters “Amp Radio 97.1” KAMP Los Angeles and “92.3 Now” WNOW-FM New York among others.
Original Report 9/5: Is a rebranding on its way to CBS’ “101.5 Jamz” KZON Phoenix?
The station, which began downplaying its “Jamz” moniker in favor of just its frequency a few months ago, has registered Live1015PHX.com and Live1015Phoenix.com.
KZON competes with Clear Channel’s “104.7 Kiss-FM” KZZP for the CHR audience in the market and lead them 4.4 to 4.1 in the August PPM rankings that were released yesterday. KZON, however skews much younger than its competitor with much of its audience coming from teenage demos.
Halloween is the first thing that comes to mind when I look at the current logo.
This is the CBS “formula” which is similar to the “formula” being used on the former oldies stations (CBS-FM, K-EARTH, K-HITS, KLUV, etc) It’s on most of the CBS CHR stations.
B96 in Chicago is no exception, but B96 leans even more Mainstream these days than these AMP/NOW/LIVE stations CBS has. To each their own market regardless, but there is still a very specific formula here and “Jamz” just doesn’t really market well with what they are doing.
