We already have one format launch set for today in Las Vegas as 103.9 K280DD becomes Urban “Real 103.9” at 10:39am. CBS Radio may have plans of their own as the company has registered Q100Vegas.com for what is currently half of their News/Talk 840 KXNT/100.5 KXNT-FM simulcast. Making the registration more intriguing is that the “Q” moniker is already in use in the market at Kemp Broadcasting’s rimshot Hot AC “Q106.9” KVGQ. If a launch utilizing the letter Q does indeed take place, it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes Kemp to respond.
Cumulus looks to be making another multi-station flip in Salt Lake City. Based on the registrations of Alt1019.com, 1019TheUnderground.com, Underground1019.com and likely decoy HotFM1019.com, Cumulus will transfer the Alternative format of “Alt 94.9” KHTB to 101.9 KENZ replacing the just over a year old Variety Hits “Trax 101.9“. That frequency was previously the home to Alternative “101.9 The End” from 2005 until 2013.
Clearing out the 94.9 frequency will apparently make room for Classic Hip-Hop as Cumulus registered 949TheVibe.com and Vibe949.com. Cumulus has used the Vibe moniker for their recent Classic Hip-Hop launches in Erie, Memphis, and Minneapolis. Despite the very clean-cut perception of the Salt Lake City market, it has a sizable Latino population and history of Hip-Hop in the market via Broadway Media’s “U92” KUUU that could help the format at launch.
Monticello Media has purchased Cville1075.com for News/Talk 107.5 WCHV-FM Charlottesville, VA. Could be a simple rebranding for the AM/FM simulcast or is the FM breaking off?
