As first reported in yesterday’s FCC Report, JYH Broadcasting’s 96.7 KNOB Healdsburg/Santa Rosa CA will soon return to Sinclair Communications’ Wine Country Radio group. Sinclair operated KNOB from its launch in 2002 until April 2017 when its LMA came to an end without agreeing on new terms. The station has been mostly Silent since then. Its Alternative format would return a few months later on Sinclair’s 100.9 KSXY as “The 101“. As part of a new Time Brokerage Agreement filed with the FCC as part of a modification application to move KNOB to KSXY’s tower, Sinclair subsidiary Commonwealth Broadcasting will pay $5000 per month for a five year period. The end of the LMA signals the end of Rock “96X“, which had quietly segued from Alternative earlier this year. Sinclair will continue to operate Spanish CHR “Latino 95.5” K238AR/KSXY-HD2, AAA “95.9 The Krush” KRSH, Spanish AC “Exitos 98.7” KXTS, and CHR “Y100.9” KSXY in the Santa Rosa market. Sinclair Communications flipped Variety Hits “96.7 Bob-FM” KNOB Heraldsburg/Santa Rosa, CA to Alternative on Friday as “96X“. The move comes following KNOB dropping from 1.8 to 0.9 in the recently released Spring Arbitron ratings. The move gives the market its first current based Rocker since 101.7 KXFX flipped to CHR in March 2011. 96X joins a cluster that includes Comedy “Funny 95.5” K238AF, AAA “The Krush 95.9” KRSH, Regional Mexican “Exitos 98.7” KXTS, and CHR “Y100.9” KSXY.
