Former NFL Tight End Jermaine Wiggins is joining Greater Media Rhythmic Hot AC “Hot 96.9” WBQT Boston as co-host of the station’s new “Get Up Crew” morning show.
Wiggins most recently worked at CBS’ “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM as a regular contributor after playing for six teams in an eight year NFL career. He will be joined on the “Get Up Crew” by current morning co-host Pebbles and current middayer Melissa. Exiting the station is Baltazar.
Greater Media announces former NFL Player and Sports Personality Jermaine “Wiggy” Wiggins has joined the HOT 96.9 “GetUp Crew” in Boston. His first day on the morning show will be Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
HOT 96.9 FM burst onto the scene in January of 2013 and continues to be one of the most successful station launches in Boston radio history. Melissa, who has been hosting middays on Hot 96.9 since the station’s inception, will also be joining the morning team. Boston’s most beloved female radio personality, Pebbles, will continue to anchor the show.
Wiggins most recently appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, where he garnered new fame as “the man with an opinion on everything”, both inside and outside the sports world. In addition, he has served as an NFL analyst and has worked in other positions at Boston sports media outlets including Comcast SportsNet New England, WBZ- TV, WHDH-TV, New England Sports Network and the Kraft Sports Production show entitled “Patriots This Week”.
“Morning shows are built to excel when the personalities are live, local, and make a connection with their marketplace,” said Cadillac Jack, Director of Programming at Greater Media Boston.
“The deep and real footprint that Pebbles, Melissa and Wiggy each already have individually in Boston make the GetUp Crew an unbeatable team and the start of another great chapter in HOT 96.9’s success story.”
“Melissa and I have worked together for years, and I’m excited to have her back on the morning team,” said Pebbles. “I’ve also had the pleasure to get to know Wiggy over the past few weeks and I can assure you – we couldn’t be more different! It’s going to be entertaining!”
“I am super excited to be working with Pebbles and Melissa, as well as everyone else at HOT 96.9,” said Wiggins. “I can’t wait to do my part to help the Hot 96.9 morning show continue to be one of the hottest shows in Boston.”
i have to applaud greater media, not only for this, but also placing a great deal of intellegent research into every one of their brands. They are never mentioned as one of the big players because they don’t own a lot of stations, but I’d argue that they target critically important US markets, and they go out of their way to utilize good programming philosophies. such as the good teases on Charlotte sister station the link, to the brand positioning of their features such as the “get up crew” which sounds hot and rhythmic. so my thoughts specifically on this, well with Jackson blue on your air staff you can’t go wrong, and they have went from a modern station playing some classics to evolving to a pretty even presentation targeting all rhythmic audiences across the board. and they were the first, since their launch, we’ve seen hot 103.7, hot 104.5, that station in San Diego i think its kiss fm, and q102 San Fran. I don’t think i’m leaving any out, but watching the unfortunate failures of the gen x brand, it’s cool to see many tracks that couldn’t find a place on radio find a home format, and I predict that we’ll see a few more rhythmic ac launches before year’s end.
Dose this mean Baltazar is coming to q102 sf for mornings?
It sucks Baltazar won’t be there anymore 🙁
