Red Wolf Broadcasting is planning a head on Country battle in New London, CT.
The company has begun testing 99.5 W258BI New London via a simulcast of 106.5 WBMW-HD2 with automated Country music. When the translator begins full operations it appears it will do so under the brand “US 99.5” as US995Country.com was registered by Red Wolf VP/Programming Brian Ram.
The Country format will create a head-on competitor for Hall Communications’ 97.7 WCTY Norwich. WCTY is the highest publicly ranked station in the market with a 10.5 share in the Fall 2012 Arbitron ratings, however the Red Wolf stations are not subscribers. Hall recently shifted Classic Hits “Kool 101” WKNL to Hot AC “100.9 Roxy-FM” to better compete with Red Wolf’s AC 106.5 WBMW.
In addition to W258BI, Red Wolf has a second translator on its way to the 99.5 frequency in Connecticut. Recently acquired 88.9 W205CE Clinton has received a Construction Permit to shift to 99.5 where it will operate with 66 watts, although it is possibly just a step towards a relocation closer to the Hartford market.
Red Wolf Broadcasting, headed by John Fuller operates WBMW, Rhythmic CHR “Jammin 107.7” WWRX, and News/Talk 94.9 WJJF in the New London market as well as Hartford Alternative “Radio 104.1” WMRQ and Spanish CHR “Bomba” via a pair of translators: 97.1 W246CC Bolton and 104.5 W285DE Bridgeport.
