Cumulus Media has flipped Classic Hip-Hop “94.9 The Vibe” KENZ Provo/Salt Lake City to CHR “Power 94.9” at 4pm today.
Positioned as “Utah’s New Hit Music”, the new format takes direct aim at iHeartMedia’s “97.1 ZHT” KZHT and Broadway Media’s “Mix 105.1” KUDD as well as Rhythmic CHR “U92” 92.5 KUUU.

Cumulus Media announces that radio station KENZ-FM launched this afternoon as Power 94.9, “Utah’s New Hit Music”. The station, previously known as “94-9 The Vibe”, was formerly programmed as Classic Hip Hop. Power 94.9 debuted its Top 40/CHR format today at 4PM Mountain, featuring the biggest hits from today’s hottest artists. Power 94.9 also launched its new website today at: www.powerslc.com.
Patrick Reedy, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Media-Salt Lake City said: ”We’re excited to offer a fresh CHR approach to the Salt Lake City market. Although there are some very well-programmed CHR’s in SLC currently, we believe Rick Vaughn’s prior multi-city success in exploiting listeners’ unmet needs within the CHR format speaks for itself. In addition, we also believe that advertisers will find Power 94.9 to be the perfect complement to our sister station B98.7.”
Rick Vaughn, Program Director, Power 94.9/KENZ-FM said: “Without handing everyone our playbook, I think listeners will feel very quickly the difference between Power 94.9 and every other station in Salt Lake City – and love what they hear.”Vaughn is a three-time winner of Top 40 Program Director of the Year, and has led winning CHR stations in Chicago, Atlanta, Hartford and Philadelphia.
