One month after launching “SportsNight with George Plaster” in afternoon drive, Ryman Hospitality Classic Country 650 WSM Nashville has pulled the plug on the show.
Plaster had been hosting a weekly Sunday evening show on WSM since July 2017 while serving as Associate Athletic Director at Belmont University. He has hosted Sports talk shows in Nashville since 1989 when he joined 99.7 WWTN. He then hosted afternoons on “104.5 The Zone” WGFX from 2003-2011 and “102.5 The Game” WPRT-FM from 2012-2016. The daily 3-6pm show debuted on WSM on July 15 with former Vanderbilt football coach Watson Brown and NHL.com writer Robby Stanley serving as co-hosts.
In a statement attributed to the station’s ownership given to WSMV-TV, the company said, “WSM has decided to end SportsNight with George Plaster. We are evaluating our options for this time slot, and in the meantime, we are looking forward to providing alternative programming for our listeners.”
The previous afternoon show, “Nashville Today” hosted by Devon O’Day and Lexi Carter had moved to 10am-12pm with the addition of Plaster. The station is simply featuring its regular music programmed hosted by Carter in the timeslot this afternoon.
Sorry to pass this long, but I have parted ways with WSM-AM. My intention is to begin a podcast with a target around Labor Day. Thanks to all of you who supported us.
