Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

With the assistance of Ratings Expert™ Chris Huff our ratings tables now feature the monthly ratings for the past six months, current CUME, station owner, format, and brand name. The ratings pages will also feature Huff’s exclusive HuffNotes spotlighting records, trends, and changes.
Entercom Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM retakes the New York market lead with a 6.1 – 6.8 gain for what Huff notes is its largest share since August 2015. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ moves from fourth to second with a 5.2 – 5.7 gain, while co-owned AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW drops to third down 6.1 to 5.6.
It was the best of times for SBS Spanish AC “93.1 Amor” WPAT-FM New York which jumped up 3.1 to 4.1 for its best share since Winter 2007. But it was the worst of times for SBS’ Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ as it has dropped from first to fourth with a three month (7.9 – 6.3 – 5.4) trend.
iHeartMedia Hip Hop “Power 105.1” WWPR-FM New York drops 3.1 to 2.3 for its lowest share in the eighteen year history of the Power brand.
Entercom Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH Los Angeles holds at its station record 6.5 share for a second consecutive month. Entercom Rhythmic AC “94.7 The Wave” KTWV places second with a 5.4 to 5.6 gain. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG holds in third with a 4.5 to 4.8 gain.
iHeartMedia Adult R&B “V103” 102.7 WVAZ Chicago shatters the station record with a 6.0 to 8.6 rise. Entercom News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS falls to second with a 7.3 to 6.4 gain. Entercom AAA 93.1 WXRT moves into a third place tie with iHeartMedia AC “93.9 Lite-FM” WLIT as WXRT drops 4.9 to 4.7, while WLIT falls 5.7 to 4.7.
iHeartMedia’s flip of Country “Big 95.5” WEBG Chicago to Rock took place with just six days left in the monthly. The old format goes out dropping 2.1 to 1.8, while Entercom’s competing Country “US 99” 99.5 WUSN holds steady at a 2.3 share.
Other big gains in Chicago were seen by Entercom Sports “670 The Score” WSCR buoyed by the performance of the Cubs 1.5 – 2.5 – 3.2 and Newsweb Liberal Talk 820 WCPT, which rises 0.3 to 1.3 for what Huff notes is the highest share for the frequency since WSCR’s last ratings period at 820 in Winter 1997.
Entercom News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC and Public News/Talk 88.5 KQED-FM tie for the San Francisco lead. KCBS/KFRC rises 7.5 to 8.0, while KQED-FM is up 7.8 to 8.0. Well behind the duo is another tie with iHeartMedia’s pair of Soft AC “98.1 The Breeze” KISQ (steady at 4.6) and Hip Hop 106.1 KMEL (down 5.3 to 4.6) holding third.
Salem Christian AC 94.9 KLTY Dallas returns to the lead with a 5.8 to 6.8 gain. iHeartMedia CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS slides to second down 6.0 – 5.6. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Lonestar 92.5” KZPS places third with a 4.7 to 5.2 rise.
Cox Media Group Classic Rock “106.9/107.5 The Eagle” KGLK/KHPT retakes the lead in Houston with a 6.9 to 7.4 gain. Huff notes that this is one the second time The Eagle has led the market and the 7.4 share is the largest in station history. iHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA drops to second with a 7.5 to 6.7 drop.
Cox Media continues its usual dominance of Atlanta. News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB stays atop the market with a 10.1 to 10.6 rise. Classic Rock/Hits “97.1 The River” WSRV rises 8.3 to 8.5 for what Huff notes is the largest share in the history of the station. Cox Adult R&B “Kiss 104.1” WALR holds in third with a 7.1 to 7.5 gain.
In its final month as Hot AC “Star 94.1“, Entercom’s WSTR Atlanta drops 2.1 to 2.0. Its flip to Rhythmic AC took place following the survey.
iHeartMedia Adult R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM maintains its lock on the top of Philadelphia with an 8.8 to 9.0 gain. Beasley Media Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK regains second with a 5.7 to 6.7 rebound, while co-owned Rock 93.3 WMMR rises 6.4 to 6.6. Entercom News 1060 KYW moves up to fourth with a 6.1 to 5.9 drop. Public News/Talk 90.9 WHYY-FM rises to fifth with a 4.8 to 5.0 gain. Entercom AC “B101.1” WBEB falls from third to sixth with a 6.2 to 4.8 drop.
Anaheim Broadcasting Classic Hits 99.9 KOLA-FM Riverside CA surges from third to first with a 5.7 to 9.4 gain. Entravision Spanish Adult Hits “Jose 97.5” KLYY falls 8.3 to 7.6, while Entercom Country “95.1 K-Frog” KFRG slides 6.9 to 5.6.
Nielsen also reissued the August ratings for Salt Lake City to re-add the Broadway Media stations, which had been omitted.
