Mike Brophey Out; David Corey In As WKLB Boston Rebrands With New PD

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
May 31, 2017

New 102.5 WKLB Boston Country Mike Brophey David CoreyBeasley Media’s “Country 102.5” WKLB Boston has rebranded as “The New 102.5” as the station undergoes a programming leadership change.

Mike Brophey, who has programmed the station since 1996, and his wife Ginny Rogers who served as Assistant Program Director/Music Director have announced their retirement. In their place the station has appointed David Corey as the new Program Director. Corey recently stepped down as VP/English Programming for Bell Media in Canada. The Massachusetts native spent twenty two years at iHeartMedia CHR “Kiss 108” 107.9 WXKS-FM Boston rising from intern to APD/MD before exiting to program Bell Media’s 104.5 CHUM-FM Toronto in 2006. The move to WKLB reunites Corey with his former WXKS Program Director Cadillac Jack McCartney who serves as Director of Programming for Beasley Media Group Boston.

Meanwhile WKLB has changed its positioning to “Boston’s Hottest Country” to match its new streamlined “The New 102.5” moniker.

Beasley Media Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBGI) announces Mike Brophey has decided to retire as Program Director of Country 102.5/WKLB-FM in Boston.

In addition, his wife, longtime Assistant Program Director/Music Director Ginny Rogers felt it would be a good time to also step down and enjoy the summer with her family.

“Mike has been considering retiring from the day to day for some time,” said Vice President and Market Manager Mary Menna. “They both have been instrumental to the evolution of the station over the years. We are very grateful to Mike and Ginny for everything they have done and wish them the very best in the next chapter of their lives.”

Beasley Media Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBGI) has named David Corey Program Director of WKLB-FM in Boston, Massachusetts. He will begin his new position on May 31, 2017.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to return home to Boston to work at WKLB-FM,” said Corey. “It’s an amazing station with an incredible history in Country radio. I look forward to working with Justin Chase, Mary Menna, Cadillac Jack and the entire team at the station!”

“David’s exceptional programming experience, leadership, and successful track record in the Boston market make him the perfect fit for WKLB-FM,” said Justin Chase. “We are always looking for top notch programmers for our company and we’re thrilled to welcome someone of his caliber to Beasley Media Group.”

“David possesses the unique combination of being an excellent strategist and talent developer, as well as a battle-tested winner,” said Director of Programming Cadillac Jack. “He’s a one of a kind competitor that we are fortunate to add to our Beasley Media Boston team of programmers!”

Corey most recently served as Vice President of Radio Programming at Bell Media based in Toronto, Canada, where he managed all aspects of programming for 105 radio stations and managed the day to day programming of Canada’s number one station, CHUM FM. The radio veteran began his radio career at the young age of 17 at KISS 108 in Boston, where he worked his way up the ranks to eventually serve as Music Director/Assistant Program Director from 1995 until 2006.

Corey was recently named International Program Director/Controller of the Year at the 2017 World Wide Music Summit in Los Angeles. On an industry level, David served on the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (CARAS) Board from 2013 to 2017 and was actively involved in the annual JUNO Awards.
