WOR New York Tabs Michael Riedel As New Morning Co-Host

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
February 27, 2018

710 WOR New York Len Berman Todd SchnittiHeartMedia News/Talk 710 WOR New York has appointed Michael Riedel as its new morning co-host alongside Len Berman starting Monday, March 5.

Riedel has served as theater columnist for the New York Post for the last twenty years and co-hosted “Theater Talk” on PBS from 1992-2017. He has also hosted a weekly show for Salem Media Conservative Talk “970 The Answer” WNYM Hackensack NJ and was a frequent guest on Imus In The Morning and WOR’s Mark Simone Show.

Riedel fills the opening created by Todd Schnitt’s exit last October.

iHeartMedia New York’s 710 WOR announced today that multi-media personality Michael Riedel will join Emmy winning broadcaster Len Berman as the co-host of the station’s morning show, effective Monday, March 5. Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning broadcasts weekdays from 6-10 a.m.

Riedel and Berman will provide tristate listeners with a four-hour variety show, showcasing the most important stories of the day to New Yorkers, including local news, entertainment, humor, political stories, and interviews with newsmakers and celebrities.

“After a four-month search, we are super fortunate to have a triple-triple threat like Michael joining WOR,” said Tom Cuddy, Program Director for WOR. “He has been a successful newspaper writer for decades, he co-hosted a TV show for over 20 years and now he’s joining us in a full-time capacity to pursue a lifelong passion for radio.”

Riedel has been the theater columnist for the New York Post since 1998 and is the most influential Broadway columnist in the United States. Riedel co-hosted the PBS-TV show “Theater Talk” for 24 years, and he is the author of The New York Times bestseller “Razzle Dazzle: The Battle for Broadway.” He is currently researching and writing his second book scheduled for a 2019 release. Since 2011, Riedel has been a regular guest on Imus in the Morning. His radio resume also includes National Public Radio, the BBC, and guest hosting for WOR’s Mark Simone. He also played himself on several episodes of “Smash”, the NBC-TV series about Broadway, with Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston.

“I have been a devoted WOR listener since I moved to NYC in 1986. In recent years, I’ve listened to broadcast legends Len Berman and Mark Simone regularly and was thrilled last fall when WOR asked me to guest host with Len,” said Riedel. “Len, his Producer Natalie Vacca, and news anchor Joe Bartlett were sensational to work with. They made the job fun and easy. I am grateful to the iHeartMedia New York team for a new career in a medium I love—radio.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to have Michael as my new co-host,” said Berman. I loved working with him when he was guest hosting. We come from two different worlds: Michael from newspaper and Broadway, me from TV and sports. Factor in that we don’t see eye to eye politically and I’m convinced it all adds up to entertaining morning radio.”
