Following their departure from mornings at SummitMedia Rhythmic CHRs “Hot 98.1” WHZT Williamston/Greenville SC and “Hot 104.5” WKHT Knoxville TN last month, Dex Mitchell and Barbie T Whitmire are heading to Cox Media Group CHR 95.1 WAPE Jacksonville FL to host mornings starting Monday, February 6.
Dex & Barbie T had hosted mornings together at WHZT since July 2017. The show was then syndicated to Knoxville in August 2019. Whitmire also hosted middays at WHZT, while Mitchell also tracked afternoons at SummitMedia Hot AC “Mix 97.3” WPYA Birmingham and previously co-hosted a second morning show at “Power 104.3” KPHW Honolulu with Candace Kay from 2020 until January 2022.
Prior to joining WHZT, Mitchell previously was APD/morning host at Saga Hot AC “Mix 96.5” WOXL Asheville and hosted mornings at Galaxy Communications Rock “K-Rock” WKRL/WKLL/WKRH Syracuse/Utica NY as well as nights at Audacy Rock “Planet Radio 93.3” WTPT Greenville and morning show producer at “94.3 The X” WNFZ Knoxville. Whitmire had spent her entire ten year radio career at WHZT previously hosting mornings with Tone Hollywood and Mike Klein prior to Mitchell’s arrival.
Meghan Lane and Austen Lane, who previously hosted mornings on WAPE, exited in January.
Cox Media Group (“CMG”) today announced 95.1 WAPE is launching “The Dex and Barbie T Morning Show,” starting February 6 at 6 a.m.
Hosted by Dex Mitchell and Barbie T Whitmire, the dynamic duo will bring their unique brand of humor and entertainment to Jacksonville. The show will feature a perfect mix of music and the topics that Jacksonville is talking about every morning. It’ll also include can’t-miss moments from GHOSTED and True Crime Tuesday!

Mitchell and Whitmire have been hosting mornings together since July 2017, where they started at Hot 98.1 WHZT in Williamston, South Carolina. By 2019, the show was syndicated to Knoxville. In this time, Whitmire hosted middays at WHZT, while Mitchell also tracked afternoons at SummitMedia Hot AC “Mix 97.3” WPYA Birmingham and previous co-hosted a second morning show at “Power 104.3” KPHW Honolulu with Candace Kay from 2020 through January 2022.
