Buddy Shula’s Radio One Buffalo has launched Classic Country “US Country” on 1270 WUSW Niagara Falls/93.3 W227BW Amherst/95.1 W236EB Buffalo NY.
The new brand launches after a weekend of stunting with Halloween music after the station dropped its former Conservative Talk “1270 The Patriot” identity last month with a temporary simulcast of Oldies “Big WECK” in-between.
The new brand will focus on “Retro Hot Country” from the 80s through early 2000s with core artists including Garth Brooks, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, Brooks and Dunn, Reba, and Dolly Parton. Former “107.7 The Wolf” WLKK morning host Liz Mantel will join the station in December to anchor mornings. The station’s lineup will also feature Shula, Aaron James, Greg Ireland, and former WYRK Buffalo Program Director Wendy Lynn in afternoons.
Shula said, “US Country is built around a clear promise: great country music and a station that feels connected to the people who listen. We’re bringing Buffalo country artists and songs that they have been craving, and that you can’t find anywhere else on the radio, locally. In Buffalo, WYRK is the heritage country station. I was on the air at WYRK earlier in my career, and it’s where I found my love for country music. However, the artists and songs we were playing back then cannot be heard anymore…. Until now. These artists are still relevant and more important to country music than ever. ”
Veteran Country programmer Ken Johnson will serve as a special advisor. Johnson programmed WYRK from 1982 to 1997 and later held roles at WXTU Philadelphia and XM Satellite Radio.
