Old School 93.5 Launches In Antelope Valley After Quake Move

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
March 17, 2015

100.1 The Quake KQAV The Edge KKZQ Old School 93.5 High Desert Lancaster PalmdalePoint Broadcasting’s Antelope Valley restructuring has completed with Monday’s launch of “Old School 93.5“. Focusing on Rhythmic Hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s with core artists including Prince, Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Gap Band, Expose, Madonna, Santana, Commodores and LL Cool J.

The launch follows last week’s merger of Classic Rock “93.5 The Quake” and Active Rock “100.1 The Edge” as “100.1 The Quake“.

High Desert Broadcasting LLC has completed a nearly two-
week phased rollout of format changes on two of its FM music stations serving the greater Antelope Valley region.

The changes started on Monday, March 9, when Classic Rock formatted KQAV 93.5 and Active Rock KKZQ 100.1 began simulcasting a broad based Rock format that combined the best music of both stations. This simulcast continued for the week with announcements that The Quake was moving up radio’s “Richter Scale” dial to 100.1 FM.

On Saturday, March 14, KQAV dropped the simulcast and ran a continuous announcement that the station had moved to 100.1 FM. The new Rock format now on KKZQ FM 100.1 is branded as “100.1 The Quake – The AV’s Rock Station”, and combines the core Rock artists from Classic Rock up to today’s top Rock bands. Featured artists include Green Day, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Van Halen, Linkin Park, Boston, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam and AC/DC to name a few.

Then, at 10am on Monday, March 16, High Desert Broadcasting launched Old School 93.5FM on KQAV. Positioned as “Jammin’ The AV”, the Old School format features Rhythmic Oldies hits from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Music artists played in the format include Prince, Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Gap Band, Expose, Madonna, Santana, Commodores, LL Cool J and the like.

“These format moves allow our group of stations to better represent and serve the changing and diverse life groups that call the Antelope Valley home,” commented Miles Sexton, President of High Desert Broadcasting. Sexton added, “Our FM stations now feature Rock, Rhythmic Oldies, Contemporary Hits, Classic Hits and Regional Mexican offering broad musical choices to entertain the over half million people who live, work and play here.”

High Desert Broadcasting LLC also operates KGMX “K-MIX 106.3FM” featuring Contemporary Hits; KMVE “Classic Top 40 106.9FM”; KCEL “Que Buena 96.1FM; KOSS “NewsTalk 1380AM” featuring news and syndicated talk and KUTY “Hermosa 1470AM” which features Mexican Adult Contemporary music and local brokered Spanish talk programming.

Original Report 3/10: Point Broadcasting is making moves at its Lancaster/Palmdale, CA cluster.

Classic Rock “93.5 The Quake” KQAV Rosamond has merged with Active Rock “100.1 The Edge” KKZQ Tehachapi as “100.1 The Quake“. KQAV morning host Gary Crewes moves to middays at 100.1 between morning host Mitchell and afternoon host Gil. The syndicated HardDriveXL with Lou Brutus fills nights.

The departure of “The Quake” from 93.5 will pave the way for the launch of Rhythmic Oldies “Old School 93.5“. That will be the third Rhythmic Oldies launch for the company in recent months following 95.9 KOCP Oxnard and last month’s launch of 104.7 KQIE San Bernardino.
