Cogeco Diffusion has announced that it will flip French Sports 730 CKAC Montreal to All-Traffic as “Radio Circulation 730” on Tuesday, September 6.
Some of the sports programming on CKAC will move to sister French News/Talk “98.5 FM” CHMP including play-by-play of the NHL Montreal Canadiens, CFL Montreal Alouettes, and MLS Montreal Impact.
Cogeco had been hoping to resurrect the licenses of the now deleted 690 CINF and 940 CINW to create a pair of Traffic stations in French and English. Following the announcement of their plans for these stations, other groups have expressed interest in the frequencies leading to an October 17 public hearing by the CRTC to discuss the applications. Not wanting to wait, Cogeco has withdrawn its application for 690 and will instead launch the French Traffic station on 730. The application for an English Traffic station on 940 remains active.
