Job Description

The Afternoon Drive On-Air Personality supports the WFRE brand while aiding the Program & Promotions Directors in executing & accomplishing the vision to expand the WFRE brand across all aspects of the brand experience, including (but not limited to), on-air programming objectives, commercial & imaging production, event marketing, and social media content. The Afternoon Drive On-Air Personality must maintain an excellent & friendly demeanor and have excellent customer service skills in interacting with clients, listeners, customers, and colleagues. Duties & responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Produces and executes the specified Country format through performance on-air and interaction with the WFRE listening audience during the hours of 3pm-7pm Monday through Friday.
  • Monitors real-time road traffic conditions via various traffic reporting portals before relaying current conditions to listeners Monday through Friday 3pm-7pm.
  • Searches out & shares applicable web content, in conjunction with Program Director, on all WFRE online outlets (website, Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.).
  • Manages all WFRE social media accounts, as well as station websites, in tandem with & under the supervision of the Program Director.
  • Responsible for voice-tracking weekend air shift, while being flexible with covering other dayparts as needed & assigned by the Program Director.
  • Ability to work potentially flexible hours & weekends, and be on call for possible disasters, breaking news, or acts of nature.
  • Adequately prepares for daily air shifts through creativity, imagination, and exercising of independent professional judgment in writing, producing, interviewing, taping and/or broadcasting of on-air material.
  • Makes regular approved appearances at both paid & non-paid station events.
  • Positively & publicly represents Local Daily Media & WFRE as an ambassador for the station, maintaining a positive & approachable demeanor when in contact with listeners & clients.
  • Voices & produces advertising commercials and/or promotional audio as requested or assigned by Production Director, Promotions Director, and/or Program Director.
  • Assists the Program Director in addressing technical and/or programming issues, as they arise, that would hinder the successful execution of the format during assigned air shift(s).
  • Aids in assuring all programming aspects comply with FCC rules & regulations, applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as Local Daily Media policies, immediately informing the Program Director of any anomalies or deficiencies.
  • Attends daily schedule regularly & consistently on-site within the WFRE studios in Frederick, MD.
  • Ensures all daily/weekly/monthly responsibilities are carried out in a timely, professional, and accurate manner.
  • Aids to ensure all logged commercials, promotions, and other essential programming air as scheduled.
  • Understands & can effectively process the basics of Nielsen methodology, reporting practices, and ratings resources as the basis for working with the Program Director toward improving ratings performance during assigned air shifts.
  • Assists the Program Director, as needed, with planning & execution of contests, events, and on-air elements.
  • Attends promotional meetings & occasional client brainstorming sessions, taking notes as needed.
  • Back-up colleagues for support staff activities (answering phones, greeting clients & customers, pulling invoices, recaps, proposals, sales materials, etc.)
  • Mandatory attendance required for “All Hands” events, i.e. Party in the Park, Touch-a-Truck, etc.

Work Schedule

This salaried full-time position, located in Frederick, MD, requires daily work hours of 11am ET – 7pm ET, with other potential specified work hours, outside of those mentioned above, to be determined by management as/when necessary.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience & applied responsibilities.

Conduct as an employee will conform to all policies & procedures (whether written or oral) as established and/or modified by Local Daily Media and its Leadership Team.

Training Period

Throughout the first ninety (90) days, known as the “Training Period”, meetings will be held with management to discuss & establish realistic goals for progress. Following the initial Training Period, performance will be reviewed & evaluated to assess competency & propensity for success. In the event satisfactory progress has not been achieved by that time, Local Daily Media & its Leadership Team reserve the right to end the working relationship.

At-Will Statement

Employment with the Company is based on mutual consent. The company or the employee may terminate the employment agreement at any time, for any reason, with or without cause. As such, employment with Local Daily Media is at-will, and neither this document nor any other oral or written representations may be considered a contract for any specific period of time.
