KOUL Flips To Air1

103.7 KOUL Corpus Christi Country Don Williams Christian AC Air1 Air 1 EMFUpdate 5/3: EMF began operating KOUL today and flipped it to Christian CHR “Air1” as expected.

In a sign of the times, instead of giving the audience an explanation or farewell message, KOUL’s Facebook page and website have both been taken offline.

Original Report 4/5: EMF Broadcasting is continuing its rapid expansion of its “Air-1” Christian CHR network in Texas.

EMF has acquired Country 103.7 KOUL Refugio/Corpus Christi from Tejas Broadcasting for $1.25 Million. Included in the purchase is a $500,000 loan to Tejas in order to fund deferred maintenance and repairs to the KOUL facilities as well as build out two Construction Permits Tejas holds for its remaining Corpus Christi area stations.

The deal includes an LMA which will see EMF soon place the “Air-1” network on KOUL prior to the sale closing. KOUL has also filed a studio waiver request and will follow-up with its usual application to convert KOUL to non-commercial status. EMF owns 88.1 KKWV Aransas Pass that currently runs Air1 in the Corpus Christi market and 88.7 KKLM Corpus Christi, which runs the “K-Love” Christian AC network.

Tejas Broadcasting will retain the rest of its Corpus Christi cluster. Its stations include Hot AC “96.5 The Beach” KLTG, Regional Mexican “La Caliente 98.3” KMJR, and Spanish AC “Exitos 105.5” KLHB. Tejas Broadcasting also owns stations in the Amarillo and Clovis, NM markets and shares a common ownership with Sunburst Media that operates stations in Houma and New Orleans, LA.

  1. I wonder why EMF would put a 2nd Air 1 station on in Corpus? They already have KKWV 88.1 there, as well as K Love KKLM 88.7.

  2. Stronger signal. They can then sell KKWV.

  3. Good point; I hadn’t noticed that until you mentioned it. But there goes another commercial frequency…
