While many stations nationally are flipping to Classic Hip-Hop, in Montgomery Bluewater Broadcasting is returning to the format.
100.5 W263BX Montgomery/WQKS-HD2 has dropped its Soft AC “Lite 100.5” and relaunched as “Yo 100.5“. The move resurrects the Classic Hip-Hop and Yo branding Bluewater utilized on 107.1 W296AI from August 2011 until it flipped to Classic Rock in September 2013.
W263BX is promoting itself has the new local home for the syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, which currently airs on sister Urban “97.9 Jamz” WJWZ.
The classic Hip-Hop/R&B fad is catching on like wildfire. Even in the black belt section of Alabama, one radio station has gone that route. The station is WJUS 1310 AM/94.3 FM from Marion Alabama. Caught wind of this change Saturday afternoon, while surfing the dial, here in Selma. The programming, from what I could tell, was a satellite based network.

P.S. I look for even more Alabama stations, including some in my area, to flip to the Classic Hip-Hop/R&B fad format within the next few weeks.
That flip was short lived. WJUS Marion is back to doing Party Blues and Oldies.
