After stunting with poetic readings of song lyrics, Midwest Communications flipped Classic Hits “Q95.7” KQSF Dell Rapids/Sioux Falls SD to CHR “Q95.7“.
Positioned as “The Most Music”, the new format takes direct attack on Townsquare Media’s “Hot 104.7” KKLS-FM. That station ranked second in the Sioux Falls market with an 8.2 share in the Spring 2018 Nielsen Audio ratings but completely surrounded by Midwest’s stations. Country “Big Country 92.5” KTWB led the market with a 10.2 share, Rock 103.7 KRRO was third with a 6.6 share while AC 101.9 KELO-FM was fourth with 6.3. KQSF’s former Classic Hits format went out with a 2.0 share.
Original Report 9/12: Midwest Communications Classic Hits “Q95.7” KQSF Dell Rapids/Sioux Falls SD is currently stunting with poetic readings of song lyrics.
KQSF is also promoting an on-air announcement for 9:00am on Thursday, September 13. That day happens to be the first day of the Fall Nielsen Audio survey. The station had a 2.0 share in the Spring 2018 ratings. If beating an existing competitor is the play with KQSF is to attack a competitor then a move to Top 40 would be the likely play as Townsquare Media’s “Hot 104.7” KKLS-FM ranks second in the market with an 8.2 share as the only non-Midwest station in the top 4 in the Sioux Falls market.
It’s like a repeat of what they did in Lansing not long ago when Classic Hits 92.9 WLMI became CHR i92.9. And thus far it hasn’t worked as Townsquare’s 97-5 Now FM is wiping the floor with them.
