Despite marking all of the usual circumstances of a post-Christmas format change, Cumulus Media has reverted “Christmas 104” 103.9 WWIZ Middlesex PA/Youngstown OH to its previous Oldies “Z104” identity.
WWIZ was the first station in 2019 to make the seasonal move to Christmas music on October 25 and kept the music going until the drop of the ball at midnight on New Years Day. The station utilizes Westwood One’s “Good Time Oldies” programming.
Original Report 10/25: Cumulus Media has made the first Christmas music flip of the 2019 season as Oldies “Z104” 103.9 WWIZ Middlesex PA/Youngstown OH becomes “Christmas 104“.
The stunting began at 12pm today with Bing Crosby’s “I’m Dreaming Of A White Christmas” kicking off the festivities.
October 25 marks an earlier start to the holiday music stunting than in 2018 when WTRV Grand Rapids made the first move on October 30.
CUMULUS MEDIA announces the launch of Christmas 104 (WWIZ-FM), an all-Christmas radio station bringing holiday cheer and the season’s best Christmas music to the Mahoning Valley. Christmas 104, The Valley’s Christmas Station, debuted today at 12:00pm Noon on WWIZ-FM, formerly programmed as “Z104, The Valley’s Goodtime Oldies” station. Bing Crosby’s Christmas classic, “White Christmas”, kicked off the festive lineup of holiday tunes, which will run through year-end on WWIZ-FM.
Bill Kelly, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Youngstown, said: “With everything going on in the Mahoning Valley and in the world these days, we felt we could all use a little more Christmas right now. Playing Christmas music this early in the season will get our listeners in the Valley into the holiday spirit even more this year!”
Did Cumulus Register Any Domains For WWIZ’s New Format or will they return to oldies? WWIZ has a 2.7 share in the market.
