Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.
Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.
All the numbers can be found at RadioInsight.com/Ratings.
On its own the 3.2 share registered by Cox Media Group Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT Tampa would not be noteworthy. However the station tied the PPM market record for highest share by a stand alone webstream as its stream rose from a 1.5 to 2.4. Ratings expert Chris Huff notes that the other 2.4 share was also marked in Tampa by Beasley Spanish CHR “Maxima 92.5” WYUU in February 2017.
Ahead of its relaunch with new morning host Jubal Fresh and rebranding as “Hits 106.1” on August 20, iHeartMedia CHR 106.1 KBKS was already trending upwards. Despite cutting ties with with former morning hosts Carla Marie and Anthony halfway through the monthly and temporarily rebranding as “Jubal 106.1“, the former “106.1 Kiss-FM” has trended up 1.8 – 3.0 – 3.4, while Hubbard CHR “Movin 92.5” KQMV has held fairly steady with 5.1 – 4.9 – 5.0.
Entercom Variety Hits “Big 103” WBGB Boston continues its slow growth following its May launch with a 1.5 – 1.8 – 2.5 trend up. Most of the growth comes from Beasley Classic Rock “Rock 92.9” WBOS which slides 3.0 to 2.3. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX retains atop the market with a 7.4 – 7.1 drop, while sister CHR “Kiss 108” (7.3 – 6.9) and News/Talk 1030 WBZ (6.7 – 6.6) follow behind.
More Sports stations showing growth with the return to action from MLB, NBA and NHL include WJFK-FM Washington (1.6 – 2.4), WBZ-FM Boston (4.1 – 4.9), WXYT-FM Detroit (4.1 – 5.3), KMVP-FM Phoenix (1.6 – 2.0), KWFN-FM San Diego (1.3 – 2.6), KFXN-FM Minneapolis (5.0 – 5.6) and WJZ-FM Baltimore (2.8 – 3.9).

The July flip of 93.9 WMIA-FM Miami to 1990s Hits “Totally 93.9” has yet to show any momentum as the station dropped slightly 2.9 to 2.7 with the new format.
Spanish News/Talk 1040 WURN Miami surges this month with a 3.2 to 4.1 move. And with last week’s exit of Program Director John O’Connell, seeing Entercom Alternative “104.3 The Shark” WSFS drop 1.7 to 1.2 should put up some warning signals about the future of the format on that frequency.
Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM holds steady at a 7.1 to continue to lead Seattle. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK rises 6.3 to 6.9 to narrow the lead, while Entercom Rock 99.9 KISW moves up to third with a 5.2 to 5.7 gain.
Beasley Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX has a clear lead in Detroit with a 7.3 to 7.1 move. iHeartMedia Adult R&B “Mix 92.3” WMXD pulls into second with a 5.3 to 5.6 gain followed by Entercom’s trio of Classic Hits 104.3 WOMC (5.1 – 5.3), Sports WXYT-FM (4.1- 5.3), and News 950 WWJ (5.5 – 5.3). Entercom Country 99.5 WYCD (6.0 – 4.9) falls from second to sixth.
Two stations tie atop the Phoenix market as iHeartMedia AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ slides 7.1 to 6.2, while Hubbard Classic Rock 100.7 KSLX rises 5.9 – 6.2.

Cox Media Group Soft AC 105.5 WDUV (7.9 – 7.5) continues to hold its usual lead in Tampa with Beasley Classic Hits “Q105” 104.7 WRBQ (5.5 – 5.8) and Radio Training Network Christian AC “The Joy-FM” 88.1 WJIS/91.5 WCIE (5.7 – 5.6) well behind. Cox Classic Rock “107.3 The Eagle” WXGL slid to fourth dropping 6.0 to 4.9, while iHeartMedia Rock “98 Rock” 97.9 WXTB jumps 3.9 to 4.8.
The lead narrowed immensely in Denver as Bonneville Country 98.5 KYGO slip 6.7 to 5.9. Public News/Talk 90.1 KCFR rose to second sliding 5.6 to 5.5, while Entercom Classic Rock “99.5 The Mountain” KQMT drops to third (5.8 – 5.5).
It was a good month for CHR in Denver. iHeartMedia’s “95.7 The Party” KPTT jumped 2.9 to 3.9, Entercom Rhythmic “KS 107.5” KQKS was up 3.4 to 3.7, and the May flip from Rhythmic to Mainstream CHR at Max Media’s “Hot 107.1” KFCO brings it up 1.4 to 1.7.
Radio One Adult R&B “Magic 95.9” WWIN-FM continues to lead Baltimore with its 9.0 share well ahead of iHeartMedia Country 93.1 WPOC (6.8 to 6.5). Hearst Rock “98 Rock” 97.9 WIYY moves to third 5.4 to 5.5. Radio One Hip Hop “92Q” WERQ is on the downslide trending 6.9 – 5.9 – 5.2 over the past three months.
Hubbard Classic Rock 94.7 KSHE St. Louis rises 11.7 to 12.2, with iHeartMedia Classic Hits 103.3 KLOU up 9.0 to 9.3. Well behind in third is Gateway Creative Broadcasting Christian AC “99.1 Joy-FM” KLJY up 5.9 to 6.6.
The July flip of 104.9 St. Louis from Alternative to Adult R&B “Magic 104.9” sees the station drop slightly 1.3 to 1.1. The new format did chip away at Radio One’s “95.5 The Lou” WFUN-FM, which drops 5.4 to 5.0.
