Audacy’s “Radio Libre 790” WAXY South Miami FL re-added hosted talent to the station with the move to a mix of music and Spanish Conservative Talk.
Mornings will be branded as “Despierta Miami con Eli Escobar” with the Houston based Escobar anchoring a music intensive daypart. She also serves as a bilingual traffic reporter for the Audacy Miami cluster and previously held that role in Houston along with hosting middays at Hot AC “Mix 96.5” KHMX and mornings at Spanish CHR “Mega 101” KLOL.
The talk programming will see the return of two former hosts from when Americano Media was providing programming to the station. Lourdes Ubieta joins the station to host from 11am to 2pm. Ubieta most recently was part of the national Americano Media lineup that was heard on WAXY until the network shut down amidst financial difficulties in September. She began her career as a television anchor in Venezuela and later worked in Miami at WGEN-TV, “Actualidad 1040” WURN, and “Radio Mambi” 710 WAQI. Fellow former Americano Media host Jorge Bonilla will be heard in afternoons from 2-6pm. Bonilla is a longtime Spanish Conservative pundit and former congressional candidate. WAXY will continue to air jockless music in other dayparts.
WAXY had flipped from Sports to Spanish Conservative Talk in October 2022 with Americano Media providing the programming. After the network ceased operations in early September after not paying employees for months and a failed buyout by Voz Media, Audacy moved the station to automated Spanish Oldies as filler.
Sister “Power 96” WPOW-FM Assistant Brand Manager/afternoon host Miguel ‘Mijo’ Irizarry will serve as Brand Manager for WAXY.
Audacy unveiled a new weekday programming lineup for Radio Libre 790 (WAXY-AM) in Miami, highlighted by three new local shows built to entertain and inform South Floridians. The new lineup is effective immediately.
The station concurrently names Miguel ‘Mijo’ Irizarry as Brand Manager. In this role, Mijo will oversee the station’s content strategy, talent, operations and branding.
“Mijo’s extensive experience and passion for Hispanic radio make him the perfect person to usher in the next chapter of Radio Libre,” said Claudia Menegus, Regional President, Audacy. “He will play a pivotal role in shaping our content strategy, enhancing the brand, and continuing our vision. “Our team is committed to top-tier content, balancing Spanish-language media, and we’re grateful for this opportunity to emphasize the importance of the Hispanic audience locally and nationally through this new lineup,” said Mijo.
