WNRN Coming To Roanoke

WNRN 91.9 WNRN-FM Charlottesville Richmond StauntonStu-Comm Inc. AAA 91.9 WNRN-FM Charlottesville VA continues its expansion across the state of Virginia with the purchase of Conservative Talk 1240 WGMN/99.5 W258DN Roanoke VA from Gary Burns’ Three Daughters Media for $425,000.

A Time Brokerage Agreement will take effect on Monday, July 1. The purchase will bring the AAA format back to FM in the Roanoke market for the first time since “The Mountain” 101.5 WVMP moved online at the end of November 2022.

WNRN is heard on a number of signals across the state of Virginia including: 670 WRJR Claremont/102.5 W273DZ Hampton/103.1 W276BZ Williamsburg, 1430 WHAN Ashland/102.9 W275BQ Richmond, 88.5 W203CB Richmond, 89.9 WNRS-FM Sweet Briar/Lynchburg, 94.3 WTON-FM Staunton, 94.7 W234BA Lovingston, and 95.3 W237DF Lexington.

    This is so necessary for that market and I’m so happy that it happened. Mind you, I do know people at the mountain, and I’m sure they’re not happy to have a competitor that got an FM frequency before they can get one back, but honestly, being a noncom, allows them to navigate a little more effectively. if we’ve learned one thing over the last 2 1/2 years, being noncom is the best you can hope for in AAA. with this, and KEXP, Seattle, I wonder if the most effective strategy moving forward for noncom AAA stations entering certain markets, are syndicating the big ones such as this because the Nashville launch is the exception to the rule, and with the budget being slashed public radio, there’s hardly enough money to actually start a new format, but if it’s obviously shown that is effective with younger demographics..
