Casson Media has closed on its $90,000 purchase of Classic Country “93.7 Nash Icon” WJBC-FM Pontiac IL and has flipped the station to its previously streaming-only Full Service Classic Hits “Route 24 Radio” brand.
The station has changed call letters to WPOK is honor of the original station licensed to Pontiac with WPOK-FM being 93.7’s original call letters from 1969 to 1984. The station will carry local morning and midday shows, high school sports, the “Route 24 Radio Forum” at 9am weekdays and the co-owned Central Illinois Farm Network’s “A Central Illinois Morning” from 5-6am.
Owner Kent Casson, who began his career at the station, said, “Our sound will really stand out and we are glad to provide listeners with a source of local information for Central Illinois. Come fall, we will spotlight high school sports broadcasts on the station as part of our growing Casson Media High School Sports Network. We are taking local radio to a whole new level. I grew up listening to and working for local stations so this is a dream come true.”
