Eddie Andelman, the “Godfather of Sports Radio” has died at the age of 89.
Andelman spent his entire 42 year career in his native Boston. “The Sports Huddle” would debut in 1969 on 1600 WUNR and then moved to 1030 WBZ and 590 WEEI before joining 850 WHDH in 1975. He would spend fifteen years at WHDH before returning to WEEI in 1991 following its flip to all-Sports. After a decade at WEEI, Andelman would move to 1510 WWZN in 2002 as afternoon host and finished his career at 96.9 WTKK before retiring at the end of 2010.
Andelman’s passing was announced by his sons who host the regional television show “Phantom Gourmet”.
