Update 4/17: The “What Is 93.1?” stunting came to an end this morning as KPLV relaunched as “93.1 The Party“.
The move back to its previous name comes with a slight Rhythmic lean for KPLV. Recently hired Big D will remain in mornings, Claire moves from afternoons to middays, which Johiah remains in nights. Mack with Nina & Nick based at sister “Y100” WHYI Miami will also be heard on KPLV in afternoons.
“93.1 The Party” originally launched in Las Vegas as a Rhythmic AC in 2006. By 2010 the station had evolved to CHR and rebranded first as “93.1 All The Hits” and later as “My 93.1“.
Original Report 4/12: As the broadcasting industry congregates in Las Vegas this week for the annual National Association of Broadcasters convention, iHeartMedia CHR “My 93.1” KPLV is on the verge of making a change.
KPLV is currently branding itself as “What Is 93.1?” and promoting a relaunch on Friday, April 17 at 9:31am.

KPLV registered a 2.4 share in the February 2015 Nielsen Audio ratings competing in a crowded CHR marketplace that includes CBS’ 98.5 KLUC, Royce International’s “Now 104.3” KFRH, Kemp Broadcasting Rhythmic “Hot 97.5” KVEG, rimshot Dance CHR “Pulse 96.7” KYLI, and many Adult CHR/Hot AC’s. KYLI is already running sweepers welcoming 93.1 listeners.
Sister 101.3 KDWB Minneapolis night host Big D was hired as APD/Morning Host for KPLV in late March
Las Vegas seems to be overloaded with too many Top 40s so this was meant to happen. As for KYLI welcoming KPLV listeners, they must know something and suspicious from the way they been running those liners.
It looks like they’re aiming for a Rhythmic Top 40 direction, since the logo looks exactly like sister station KPTT/Denver.
And it will be, going back to 93.1 The Party per the station’s Instagram which Lance retweeted.
Yes, the “Party” is back! Last song as “My” was “Latch” by Disclosure, first song as “Party” was “G.D.F.R.” By Flo Rida. The playlist favors Rhythmic and Dance tracks save for a few Pop songs.

Maybe they need to update their banner on their website so that it doesn’t outrightly mention one of their shows is being fed from a radio station in Miami?
They just did.
Hopefully they will soon, since they don’t start until April 20 (2015).
Still sounds Mainstream CHR as said, little more rhythmic and man did they turn up the pitch shifting.
Only time will tell if this “Party” will last with this direction. The playlist needs to be more focused on who they’re trying to cater to because at this rate they just gave the folks at 96.7, 97.5, 98.5, 104.3, and 106.9 a reason not to be worried about.
