A few domain registrations indicate that former 1650 WHKT morning host Steve Batton is about to acquire Red Zebra Broadcasting Sports “102.1 The Game” WXTG-FM and bring aboard a new format. The website at Batton’s RedChairBroadcast.com states that they are about to make their first acquisition soon. Batton registered Talk1021.com and FMTalk1021.com for his pending acquisition on April 12. The Red Chair Broadcast site features a contact number of (757)541-TALK that ties into the format as well as his base in Virginia Beach.

A few weeks ago, VARTV.com’s Bob Corbin tweeted the following which first teased that a FM Talker was on its way into the market:

Batton is not likely to do anything. Most people who have worked with him in the Hampton Roads market part company with him owing them money. He is more a used car salesman than a true businessman. Word is he lost his shirt when he brought Palin to town a few years ago. He sounds great on the radio and if someone would just hire him to do a morning show all would be happy. I hope he is able to bring a successful FM talker on-line in the Hampton Roads market but I doubt it. He will run it into the ground financially more than likely.
