Sir Mix-A-Lot To Mornings; Eric Powers PD/Afternoons At Hot 103.7 Seattle

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
June 27, 2017

Hot 103.7 Seattle KHTP Sir Mix-A-Lot Eric Powers 93.3 KUBEEntercom Rhythmic Hot AC “Hot 103.7” KHTP Tacoma/Seattle has appointed Eric Powers as its new PD/Afternoon host and Anthony Ray, better known as rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot as morning host.

Powers, the longtime PD at Rhythmic CHR 93.3 KUBE until its flip to Mainstream CHR “Power 93.3“, will fill the Programming role most recently held by Mike Preston until his February exit. Powers has spent his entire career in Seattle starting at Nathan Hale High School’s “C89.5” KNHC and a stint at Alternative “107.7 The End” KNDD before joining KUBE in 1992 and adding programming duties in 1998 as well as also programming CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KBKS for a time.

Sir Mix-A-Lot, best known for the song “Baby Got Back”, will take the morning slot most recently filled by Deanna Cruz. Mix-A-Lot is also the host of a syndicated Classic Hip-Hop show distributed by Benztown.

With the addition of Powers for afternoons, Assistant Program Director Tanch will move to middays. Suga Rae remains in nights. Middayer Kristin The Island Girl exits along with Deanna Cruz.

Entercom Seattle announced today that award-winning rap artist Anthony Ray, better known as Sir Mix-A-Lot, and Seattle radio veteran Eric Powers will join the KHTP-FM HOT 103.7 line-up. Sir Mix-A-Lot will be on air during morning drive from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Eric Powers will be the afternoon drive host from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., as well as the station’s Program Director effective July 5th.

“We’re so excited to have Eric Powers on board to lead HOT 103.7. He is the guy who made all the songs HOT 103.7 now play, hits in the first place,” said Dave Richards, Vice President of Programming and Operations, Entercom Seattle. “With two local Seattle icons, Sir Mix-A-Lot in Mornings and Powers in afternoons, HOT 103.7 is ready to launch into the next stratosphere.”

“They gave me Sea-Town (Seattle) in the Morning? Wait until you hear my traffic reports,” said Sir Mix-A-Lot. “Who better to discuss home than a true homey. You can’t talk about the town if you are not from the town. Morning Drive will be 100% throwbacks, 100% hot tracks and 100% fur hat.”

“I couldn’t be more excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead this brand and be back on the air,” said Eric Powers. “Entercom truly creates unique audio brands and I’m excited to be a part of it. I’m equally fired up to partner with Seattle’s icon, Sir Mix-A-Lot. A huge thanks to Dave Richards, Jack Hutchison and Pat Paxton.”

Sir Mix-A-Lot is a Grammy award winning rap artist, producer, actor and a tech entrepreneur. His hit singles have sold millions of records worldwide and have been utilized in blockbuster movies and TV shows such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “Shrek,” “Shark Tale,” “Glee,” “Saturday Night Live,” “X-Factor,” “Friends” and many more. Sir Mix-A-Lot has appeared on “The Howard Stern Show,” the NPR series “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” and “The Arsenio Hall Show.” Sir Mix-A-Lot is a tech geek and can often be found in Silicon Valley and in the tech centers around Seattle engaged in technology start-up discussions. Sir Mix-A-Lot has a passion for senior causes, education and music in schools.

Eric Powers, self-proclaimed as “Mayor of Lake City,” has always been passionate about music and radio. He started his own radio station as a teenager which led him to be part of Nathan Hale High School’s radio station KNHC-FM C-89.5. He was one of the first on air personalities on Entercom’s KNDD in the 90’s. Powers later joined KUBE-FM as afternoon host as well as Program Director for almost twenty years. During that time he was also Program Director for KBKS-FM.

With the lineup additions, KHTP’s Assistant Program Director Tanch moves to middays, and night host Suga Rae remains in nights. For more information about the station please visit, http://www.hot1037seattle.com.
