People Moves 2/6: Jeff Detrow & CJ Lusk Make Moves To Christian Radio

Educational Media Foundation K-Love KLoveEducational Media Foundation’s “K-Love” launched a new on-air lineup in January. The morning show hosted by Skip Mahaffey and Amy Baumann remains in place from 6-11am eastern/3-8am pacific. Afternoon host Scott Smith moves to middays to reteam with Kelli Caldwell in the 11am-4pm/8am-1pm slot replacing Mike Kankelfritz who left in November. Longtime San Diego morning host Jeff Detrow of “Jeff & Jer” fame has joined as co-host of the 4-9pm/1-6pm afternoon show. Detrow will be paired with former night host Randi Tyler, while Larry Wayne takes the 9pm-3am/6pm-12am slot.

Detrow exited CBS Radio AC 96.5 KYXY San Diego last June ending a near 30 year run in mornings in the market.


One Detrow’s former sidekicks has also found a new job as ‘Little’ Tommy Sablan has joined iHeartMedia Classic Rock 101.5 KGB-FM as as Senior Producer of the Bob and Coe Morning Show.

iHeart Media San Diego and 101.5 KGB-FM are excited to welcome Tommy Sablan as Senior Producer of the Bob and Coe Morning Show.

Tommy is a San Diego County native who grew up in Chula Vista as an avid KGB-FM listener. “It’s a dream come true to be able to work with Bob and Coe on a legendary station like KGB” Tommy said. “Coe Lewis is the Queen of Rock and Roll and the First Lady of KGB. I have idolized her for decades and it’s a trip I get to work with her, Bob, and Anna their producer.

Prior to joining 101.5 KGB-FM, Sablan was the Executive Producer of legendary Jeff and Jer Showgram, where he was known on-air as “Little Tommy”. During his many years with the Showgram, Tommy was instrumental in creating promotions like the “Breaking and Entering Christmas,” and finish “Chelsea’s Run”. In 2016 Tommy was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016 – he’s the first, and only producer to receive this honor.


CJ Lusk, most recently at Cumulus Country “Kicks 101.5” WKHX Atlanta has joined Way Media’s “Way-FM” network as afternoon co-host alongside Joy Summers. Lusk moved from afternoons to mornings at WKHX in June 2017, but then exited the station in September.


The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Matt ‘Knox’ Shiflett has been let go from iHeartMedia Alternative “Alt 105.7” WRDA Canton GA. Shiflett moved from middays to nights last month when the station picked up The Woody Show for mornings and served as Promotions Director for WRDA and sister CHR “Power 96.1” WWPW. This was his third tour with the iHeartMedia Atlanta cluster as he previously worked there from 2006-2010 before rejoining for a brief stint in 2012 and then came back in 2014. He also programmed Rock “X101.5” WXSR Tallahassee FL in 2010/2011.


98.7 The Bull KUPL Portland MoJoe Roberts“98.7 The Bull” KUPL Portland OR night host Cassidy Quinn is on her way to South Korea to serve as an embedded reporter for NBC during the upcoming Winter Olympics. Quinn will also file reports to all of Alpha Media’s Portland stations during the event.

98.7 The Bull (KUPL/Portland) night host Cassidy Quinn is set to embark on a trip to South Korea to cover the Winter Olympics! She will be an embedded reporter for NBC and will share her experiences on all Portland Alpha Media stations throughout the month of February.

98.7 The Bull’s program director, MoJoe Roberts, states “There is no better suited person to capture the stories and behind the scenes moments than Cassidy! We can’t wait to see & hear these highlights come to life from her perspective.”

KGW News Director, Rick Jacobs, states “We’re thrilled at KGW that we have the opportunity to send Cassidy Quinn to South Korea to cover the winter Olympics. She’s got the spunk, the drive and the personality to bring back a gold medal for our audiences on air and online”

Cassidy Quinn states “I’m so excited to cover the Olympics in PyeongChang! I can’t wait to explore some of the South Korean culture, and meet up with the amazing athletes that will be competing from Oregon! It will be a crazy month, and I don’t even know what to expect – but I’m excited to be able to share all of my experiences with everyone back home!”


iHeartMedia has announced they have signed Thea Mitchem to a long-term contract extension to remain in her position as Executive Vice President of Programming for its Northeast Division, member of the Urban Brand Management Team, and Program Director of “Power 105.1” WWPR-FM New York.

iHeartMedia announced today a long-term contract extension with noted programming and company veteran Thea Mitchem to continue her role in its National Programming Group as Executive Vice President of Programming for its Northeast Division. She will continue to report to Brad Hardin, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the iHeartMedia National Programming Group and Scott Hopeck, President of iHeartMedia New York.

Under the new agreement, Mitchem will continue to partner with iHeartMedia Markets Group Division President Tom McConnell to collaborate with its regions located in the East, providing national programming assets, services and resources. In addition, she will continue to oversee programming of 60-plus iHeartMedia stations in over a dozen markets, including New York City, Boston and Philadelphia. She will also remain a key member of iHeartMedia’s Urban Brand Management Team and help book artists and produce events including Power 105.1 FM’s Powerhouse. Additionally, Mitchem will continue as Program Director for iHeartMedia New York’s Power 105.1 FM, New York’s Hip-Hop and R&B, where she works closely with the brand’s nationally-recognized on-air personalities including The Breakfast Club and the sales team to oversee the station’s on-air content, digital footprint and music programming.

“Thea is unquestionably one of the most influential women in the radio industry,” said Tom Poleman, Chief Programming Officer for iHeartMedia. “We’re thrilled that she will continue to oversee programming efforts for our Northeast markets. Mitchem was named Executive Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia’s Northeast Division in January 2016. Her over twenty years of radio experience also includes serving as Director of Operations for iHeartMedia Philadelphia and President of iHeartMedia’s Washington D.C. and Baltimore markets, where she grew revenue and audience share for a diverse portfolio of assets including radio stations, the Total Traffic & Weather Network, local digital platforms and live events. Mitchem began her career in programming with WPGC-FM in Washington D.C. Her recognitions include having received the R&R Urban PD of the Year Award, Living Legend Award, Ronnie Johnson Radio Mentor of the Year Award, National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) Executive Milestone Award and S.I.N. Magazine CHR Program Director of the Year Award. For the past two years, Mitchem has been named one of Radio Ink’s Best Program Directors in America.

    Monika Kelly is actually doing the 9PM-3AM/6P-12M slot weekdays on K-Love. Larry Wayne is semi-retired doing weekends and fill-ins.
