Bigfoot Country Legends Debuts In State College

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
March 21, 2019

Bigfoot Country Legends 98.7 The Freq WFEQ WLEJ State CollegeSeven Mountains Media launched Classic Country “Bigfoot Country Legends” with new WLEJ call letters on 98.7 Pleasant Gap/State College PA at noon today.

The new format doesn’t take direct aim at Forever Media’s “Big Froggy 101” 101.1 WFGE State College, but will instead chip away at its upper demos. The brand was developed by Seven Mountains Media Chief Programming Officer JC Burton and WLEJ will be programmed by Classic Hits WOWY 97.1’s Program Director Mike Shoenfelt.

The first hour of Bigfoot Country Legends consisted of:

Gay Nicholson’s – Bigfoot Song
Garth Brooks – Ain’t Goin’ Down Til The Sun Comes Up
Tracy Byrd – I’m from The Country
The Judds – Have Mercy
Kenny Chesney – When The Sun Goes Down
Travis Tritt – Country Club
Shania Twain – Any Man of Mine
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band – Fishin’ in the Dark
Rascal Flatts – Mayberry
Martina McBride – My Baby Loves Me
Brooks and Dunn – My Maria
Alabama – If You’re Gonna Play in Texas
Toby Keith – I Love This Bar
Faith Hill – Wild One
Keith Urban – But For The Grace of God
George Strait – Ocean Front Property
Tim McGraw – My Next Thirty Years

Original Report 3/19: Seven Mountains Media AAA “98.7 The Freq” WFEQ Pleasant Gap/State College PA has dropped its format and is stunting with a loop of Alan Jackson’s “Gone Country” ahead of a format change.

Between playing of the songs are effects of grunts and something eating a frog which is a reference to Forever Media’s “Big Froggy 101” 101.1 WFGE State College. Could that something be the “Bigfoot” that Seven Mountains brands all of its Country stations with?

While Program Director/morning host Dave Snyder has exited ahead of the format change, the brand will remain as a hosted webstream.

Laughing at the fact that Seven Mountains would poke fun at Big Froggy as they are technically the same owner. And, how both companies basically monopolize the entire Western and Central portions of the state. …Now, technically it’s dad owned (Forever) and daughter owned (Seven Mountains) … so sure that is TECHNICALLY different owner. But it still amazes me this crap gets approved by the FCC.

I’ve been to both of their facilities in State College (accompanying Scott Fybush as documented here: https://www.fybush.com/site-20170519/).

While both owned by members of the same family, the two clusters do compete against each other, although conveniently none of their formats do directly compete (one does Oldies, the other Classic Hits), (one AC, the other Hot AC) etc..

So, how can it be “technically the same owner” and a “TECHNICALLY different owner” at the same time? Which technicality is it?

Well technically I would assume that there are two different balance sheets for two different companies. But when the daughter owns own company and daddy owns the other, only a fool would think the money isn’t shared by both. Technically.
