107.3 Jeny Is Exposed To Cleveland

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
January 3, 2020

107.3 Jeny WNWV Cleveland Gen YFor the past two months a pair on convergent stunts have taken place in Cleveland.

While former Smooth Jazz “107.3 The Wave” WNWV Elyria went all-Christmas on November 15, a billboard campaign simply asking “#WhoIsJeny” have been visible throughout the region.

The two came together this morning as Rubber City Radio debuted Modern AC “107.3 JenY” at 10am this morning. The station is marketing itself as the first station in Cleveland and Akron targeted exclusively for Generation Y, which is the alternating collective name for millennials. Positioned as “The Pulse of the North Coast” and “Cleveland’s Modern Hit Music”, while also pushing some songs in a AAA-like “music discovery” position, Jeny is launching with the pre-requisite 10,0000 songs in a row.

The first hour of the station featured:
Portugal The Man – Feel It Still
Goo Goo Dolls – Miracle Pill
Post Malone – Circles
George Ezra – Budapest
Illenium ft. Jon Bellion – Good Things Fall Apart
Lauren Daigle – You Say
Hozier – Take Me To Church
Lewis Capaldi – Someone You Loved
Babyface – Fire and Rain
The Fray – How To Save A Life
Ed Sheeran – I Don’t Care
Mumford And Sons – Guiding Light
Pink ft. Chris Stapleton – Love Me Anyway
Dermot Kennedy – Outnumbered
Paramore – Ain’t It Fun
Rob Thomas – Mockingbird
O.A.R. – Knocking At Your Door

Somebody should tell Rubber City Radio that the term “Generation Y” (synonymous with “Millennial”) refers to those born between 1981 and 1996. This format isn’t going to appeal to someone that is under the age of 25. It may appeal to an older Millennial, but this brand feels like a big “miss”, so far.

Oh, and RCR should also learn the definition of “Generation Y” because their press release stating that the station targets W25-49 contradicts calling it “JenY”, because the -oldest- Millennial will turn 39 during 2020, not 49.
