Townsquare Media has appointed Jerry ‘JT’ Tarrants as Director of Content for its Kalamazoo MI cluster and PD/morning host at Rock 107.7 WRKR following the retirement in August of Mike McKelly.
Tarrants exited as Operations Manager of Beasley Media Detroit in July after seven years with the company. Tarrants came to Detroit in 2013 as Program Director of Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX adding the PD role at Rock 101.1 WRIF in January and becoming Operations Manager for the cluster in March. Before going to Detroit, he previously was Operations Manager of Townsquare Media Grand Rapids and PD Rock 97.9 WGRD. He also programmed Rock “Z93” WKQZ and Classic Rock “Wheelz 104.5/100.9” WILZ/WYLZ Saginaw. He joins Stefani Bishop in mornings at WRKR.
McKelly joined WRKR as morning host in 1990 after previously working at a station with the same call letters in Kenosha WI and stations in Akron and Youngstown OH. He rose to Program Director of WRKR in 2002 and later added OM duties for the cluster. In his farewell announcement he stated he will be focusing on his Mikar Media advertising production and copywriting business.
